Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital
Specialized Orthopaedic Surgeons treating a wide-range of musculoskeletal conditions
Overview
The division of Orthopaedic Surgery at St Mary’s Hospital (SMH) is an integral part of McGill’s Department of Surgery. St Mary's Orthopaedics includes nine surgeons with various subspecialty interests actively involved in clinical research and the teaching of McGill's medical students and orthopaedic residents. We additionally host 2 clinical fellowships, one in Sports Medicine/Arthroscopic Surgery, established in 2010 and a second in Joint Replacement Arthroplasty, established in 2018. We are currently amongst the largest Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Centers in Quebec. Through our Fellowship programs we have provided subspeciality training to newly graduated Orthopaedic Surgeons from the USA, Europe, South America and the Middle East. Recent initiatives include a Day Surgery Total Joint program which, during the pandemic, enabled many patients to receive orthopaedic care without hospitalization. We recently hired a full time Orthopaedic Research Coordinator and in 2021 we are looking to further expand into robotic assisted knee replacement surgery and minimally invasive arthroscopic hip surgery.
